Global Business Company review
A Mauritius Global Business Company is a licensed structure for appropriate international business activity. Local governance, substance, the income earned and the ownership chain need assessment. A low effective-rate illustration should not be extended to every type of profit or every company.
Compare the structure with the existing business after management costs and all relevant countries' rules. Shareholder-level tax, controlled-company provisions and reporting can remain even where a company qualifies for local relief. A personal investment portfolio may not need a company at all.
Country facts to keep in view
- Personal income tax
- 0–20% + high-income contributionThe current bands apply from July 2025. A 15% Fair Share Contribution can apply above the MUR 12 million income threshold.
- Company tax
- 15% standard; exemptions may applyPartial exemptions, sector rules and additional high-profit contributions can affect the result.
- Dividend tax
- Domestic dividends generally exemptThe high-income Fair Share Contribution can include domestic dividends. Foreign income has separate treatment.
A situation worth reviewing
An owner of an international business could examine whether Mauritius governance and licensing support the actual activity. A nominal address or director appointment should not be treated as a substitute for the substance required by the applicable rules.
For UK assets and UK connections
Review the exact pension type under the UK Mauritius convention alongside local residence and remittance treatment. Departure reporting, source-country withholding and any claim or relief limitation need to be considered together.
Keep pension payments, investment income and original savings distinguishable. Confirm provider access and review a large payment before fixing its date; a residence permit alone does not settle the result.
For US persons
Mauritius is not on the IRS comprehensive income-tax treaty list reviewed for this article. A UK treaty pension result should not be applied to a US account, and local treatment does not establish exemption for a US citizen or resident alien.
Review retirement accounts, foreign funds and company ownership with a US specialist. PFIC or foreign-entity classification and reporting can remain relevant even where a local proposal is described as tax-efficient.
Before changing an arrangement
Compare the existing position with the proposed arrangement after fees, taxes and access restrictions. Keep a simple record of who owns each asset, where income arises and when it will be used. A lower headline rate is only useful if the account or regime qualifies and the structure remains appropriate when your plans change.

Your move and your company are separate tax questions
Running a UK company from Mauritius can create local company or permanent-establishment questions while UK obligations continue.
A UK incorporated company does not automatically stop being UK resident when its owner moves. Assess where decisions and work occur, then check the country treaty and local business rules.
Worth exploring: Review actual governance, operations and remuneration before changing the ownership structure.
Ask a planner: Where will the business actually be managed and operated?

Review the entity and actual management
Foreign incorporation alone does not establish the combined tax result.
A Global Business structure requires real substance and qualifying income conditions. It is not the same as the personal remittance framework. US owners also need foreign-company reporting and classification review. No numerical saving is assigned.
Worth exploring: Consider a company only where its commercial and planning benefit justifies the obligations.
Ask a planner: Where is the entity managed and which people own or control it?
