Employment and Premium Residency categories
Employment-sponsored residence and Premium Residency serve different circumstances. Premium Residency includes categories with limited or permanent duration, and product-specific conditions. Investigate the actual route rather than assuming the same term or rights apply to every applicant.
Confirm family coverage, permitted activity and renewal requirements. Residence, work, investment licensing and nationality are separate matters. Plan how permission and dependent arrangements would change after employment ends or a qualifying investment is altered.
Country facts to keep in view

- Work / family / Premium ResidencyPremium Residency offers category-specific limited or permanent permission. Eligibility, financial evidence and health requirements apply.
- Citizenship
- 10 years minimum; highly selectiveContinuous residence alone does not grant nationality. Language, occupation, qualifications and discretionary approval matter.
- Healthcare
- Employer insurance; arrange other coverPrivate-sector employers must cover eligible workers and dependents. Other residence categories need suitable insurance.
- Property ownership
- Permitted within defined areas and conditionsThe 2026 law controls geographical scope and ownership rights. Special rules apply to Makkah and Madinah and personal residential property.
Employer benefits and family healthcare
Compare the part of the employment package that is paid directly with allowances and bills the household will meet itself. Riyadh, Jeddah and other locations can have different housing markets and commuting costs. Schooling, transport and flights home can materially affect the annual result.
Private-sector employers have health-insurance obligations for eligible workers and family members, but the network and benefits should be checked. Plan separately for a change of employer or retirement. An insurance premium and the cost of uncovered treatment are different budget items.

Adjust the lifestyle budgetConfirm healthcare access before relying on it
Private-sector employers must cover eligible workers and dependents. Other residence categories need suitable insurance. Public provision, insurance and out-of-pocket charges need separate checks. Obtain a quote for your age, medical history and required cover; the budget tool is an allowance rather than an insurance quotation.
Residence and citizenship are separate decisions
Continuous residence alone does not grant nationality. Language, occupation, qualifications and discretionary approval matter. Check how your chosen permit counts towards any later application and what absences are allowed. Buying a property or paying an application fee is not an assurance that citizenship will follow.
Before leaving or returning to the UK
Review the UK departure year, retained work and income before changing investments or taking a pension payment. For Saudi pension treaty claims, HMRC describes country-specific residence evidence, including the relevant Iqama and residence statement in the stated circumstances.
Check the exact payment type and provider access. A Saudi residence document does not by itself establish that every UK pension or account has the same result.
US connections continue to matter
US citizenship or resident-alien status can keep US tax obligations relevant after a Saudi move. The IRS comprehensive income-tax treaty list does not include Saudi Arabia, so do not import a treaty answer from a different destination.
Review the actual US accounts, foreign-company interests and proposed investments with a US specialist. Provider access and the classification of a new structure should be settled before transferring or buying.

Make the conversation useful.
- Which Saudi residence category covers our planned activity and remains appropriate if work changes?
- What will our Saudi household pay itself, including medical gaps and any loss of employer benefits?
- Which commitments should I delay until permission and healthcare are confirmed?
